As winter starts to come to an end and New Year’s resolutions are (hopefully) well under way or already complete, try a fresh new project to get ready for spring. Office space is normally pretty plain and standard, but there are a lot of ways to make your space reflect your personality, even if your space just consists of a desk.
1. Use clear space.
Some desks have a shelf above it and if you’re in a cubicle, you may have some space on the sides. If you just have a desk, use free space on the surface for small knick-knacks and photos.
2. Combine personality with practicality.
If you need to use up some space with work-related items, buy or make some practical items that double as decoration. As for office supplies, there are plenty of clever and colorful gadgets to light up your desk.
3. Take it to the back.
If you have a cubicle, replace that boring wall behind your computer monitor with a bright and fun background. This may not seem like much, but your peripherals will thank you.
4. Show your drawers.
If you have those plain metal filing cabinet drawers, spruce them up with some cool magnets, fabric, or scrapbook paper.
5. Sit with style.
Buy an office chair with a little pizazz, or if you’re the crafty type, buy a plain and cheap one and reupholster it.
6. Raise your eyes.
Raise your computer monitor to eye level. This is easier on your neck, and we found it also improves our posture and helps us stay more alert throughout the day. If your monitor can be raised by itself, an added benefit is that it leaves more room underneath the monitor for decoration. You could put decorative books or storage underneath them if they don’t lift by themselves.
7. Shine some light.
Hang some lights or add a decorative lamp to provide warmth.
