How to Stay Warm this Winter Without Turning Up the Heat

In Texas, it’s easy to look forward to colder weather for most of the year, but now that winter is finally here (sort of), we can all appreciate our heaters. Whether you have electric or gas-powered, all heaters have at least a few parts that still use electricity. Stay warm this winter without blasting your heat with these tips.

1.    Move to one room.

Body heat and sunlight from windows is a great way to stay warm without having to adjust the heater. It’s also a great way to spend time with your friends and family.

2.    Put on warmer clothes or grab a blanket.

Many of us look forward to our cute and comfortable winter clothes. Why not also wear them inside? Or you could just snuggle up in your softest blanket and PJs.

3.    Drink a hot drink or soup.

It’s finally an appropriate season to drink hot chocolate! We can make our favorite stew without having to sit under the A/C vent and enjoy all of our other favorites as they keep us warm.

4.    Work out or do chores.

Working out is probably not an activity that you’ll want to do all evening, but for a short time it is a great way to increase your body heat. Doing chores has a similar effect as you are most likely moving around as you do them. The cold can be great for being productive whereas the heat made many of us lethargic.

5.    Sit by the fire.

If you have a fireplace, spend some time with your family by the fire while roasting marshmallows or watching a movie. If you don’t have a fireplace, light some candles and roast mini marshmallows!

6.    Use a heating pad or heated blanket.

Heating pads and heated blankets are great for staying warm. Even a small heating pad has the ability to warm your entire body.

7.    Change the direction of your ceiling fan.

Ceiling fans turn one way to circulate air and make a room cooler, but they also turn the opposite way to drive down the warm air.

We hope these tips will help you save money while keeping comfortable this winter!
